The first British fruits are now in the shops, including strawberries and gooseberries (which makes a welcome change after months of rhubarb). Cherries are imported from southern Europe.
Asparagus is still around for a few more weeks so make the most of it, and the first salads are coming through. Broad beans, peas and new potatoes are also in the shops - superb with Welsh lamb which is particularly good at this time of year.

silvernutmeg Seasonal Food Guide
Eating seasonally means eating food that is at its peak in terms of flavour and nutritional content, while at the same time cutting down on those food miles. Each month, silvernutmeg.com brings you a guide to what's in season. The emphasis is on fresh and locally produced (i.e. British) food, including wild herbs and game.
